The Japanese School Ltd. was established in 1976 and operates the The Japanese School in London and The Japanese Saturday School in London. Its predecessor was the “Nihongo-kai (Japanese Language Association)” established in September 1965 by the Japan Club. It started with 20 students and 4 instructors, and in 1974, due to the increase in students, one government-sponsored teacher was assigned. In May 1975, the Japan Club resolved to establish a full-time Japanese school, and in 1976, the first principal was appointed, and the school has received accreditation as independent school in the UK. Then, in October, it opened using the Japan Club (primary school) and the Japanese Embassy Public Relations Centre (secondary school) as temporary school buildings. To accommodate the increasing number of students, it moved to the Camden campus in April 1977, and then to its current Acton campus in 1987, where it remains today.
